$20 million
round
for Gigle Semiconductor
SEP has led a $20 million second round
funding for Gigle Semiconductor, a leading
developer of multimedia home networking
solutions.
Gigle is developing system-on-chip integrated
circuits capable of changing the way people
view movies and television broadcasts,
listen to music, access information and
play games. Its leading-edge solutions
allow networking over existing wires in
the home including power lines, coax cables
and phone lines, taking multimedia home
networking to a new level.
SEP, which has had significant success
in the semiconductor sector with Wolfson
Microelectronics and Cambridge Silicon
Radio, was joined in the funding round
by existing investors Accel Partners and
Pond Venture Partners.
Gigle will use the funds to support the
development and launch of its new low-cost
high-performance chip. The multinational
company, which was established in 2006,
has operations in Barcelona and in Edinburgh
and also in Redwood City, California.
Gigle
CEO and President Juan Carlos Riveiro said: ““The
level of investment and the quality of
our investors is a huge vote of confidence
in the company, its technology, and its
people. This investment will enable us
to deliver to our customers the highest
bandwidth, most reliable, most cost-effective
home networking solutions available.”
SEP’s Stuart Paterson said: “We
are very impressed with the team at Gigle
and the progress they have made in bringing
their world-beating technology to market.
SEP has had two of the largest fabless
semiconductor IPOS in Europe in the last
five years and we are confident that Gigle
will follow the same model.”
